Keeping Your Brain Sharp!

Who doesn’t want to be known for being “the brains” in the crowd? Everyone wants to be known for having the intellect and mental skills of a winner. So if “Mr. Smarty Pants” is more of a compliment than a comment to you, then you have just clicked the right link! 😉

Here are 5 tips to keep your brain razor sharp, so you could answer every query thrown at you with Einstein-like panache

1.       Lead an active lifestyle and exercise regularly.

Obvious, isn’t it? Staying active and fit physically is going to result in a sharper brain, too. It’s just like 2+2=4.

2.      Exercise and challenge your mind.

An active brain stays sharp and continues to produce new connections between nerve cells. So instead of watching mind numbing TV shows watch programs that provide new and thought-provoking information such as shows about history and science. Not a very costly pay-off, eh? Just needs a little change in the buttons you press on your remote control.

3.      Eat a healthy diet.

After all you are what you eat. Eat senselessly, be senseless; and that’s the way it is.  A diet that is low in saturated fats, sugar, bleached white flour and junk foods and which has an abundance of colorful fruits and veggies will keep your brain sharp as well as keeping your body trim.

4.      Avoid and manage stress.

Stop fretting about menial things – this kills your precious brain cells –  instead, simplify your life. Avoid stressful situations. Stop to smell the roses from time to time, and use techniques such as yoga, meditation, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and/or MTT (Meridian Tapping Technique).

5.      Incorporate plenty of essential omega-3 fatty acids in your diet.

Omega-3s help protect the brain against age-related decline and maintain proper brain function throughout life. Some of the best omega-3 sources include fatty cold water fish such as tuna, sardines, mackerel, and herring
