Sleep and why we need loads of it

I am sure that we all have heard our mother told us to go to bed and sleep at a time when we don’t want to sleep and are not sleepy at all and when we do tell them this they always say that you need to sleep or you would get ill. Believe it or not, this is actually true.

Sleep is important for many reasons. Going to bed, too late doubles the risk of breast cancer. If we sleep less than 7 hours a day, we have a 100% increased chance of a heart attack. If we are sleep deprived, we are 20% more likely to die in 20 years.  It has also been studied that people lose 14.3 lbs weight per year just by sleeping so it is also good for obesity. Sleep deprivation reduces our ability for appreciation for people and we become grumpy and hard to be with.

A person should sleep at least 8 hours a day but only 7% get that much sleep.

Our generation thinks that we can accomplish many things at the same time that we are sleeping. Either it is to watch movies, do work, or read, even to play games and beat your brother all time high score in a game. What we do not realize is that, if we sleep the time which is required by our body, it will work faster and better.

A single night of sleep, can double our ability to come up with solutions to difficult problems. This is why sleep is so important.
