Top Five Video Games for 2012

Whether you’re an MMO addict high on DoTA or a faster paced fragger in first person shooter (FPS) games like Counter Strike, this year appears to be a particularly good one when it comes to video games. We’ve already seen the closed beta launches of DoTA 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and even Diablo III, but most of us are waiting for the real full-fledged versions.

Without further ado, in no particular order here is a look at the top five upcoming games this year.

Diablo III

For a time, it looked as if the game would make a 2011 release date, but its postponement into 2012 means that we will see maybe two or possibly three Blizzard releases this year (Diablo III, StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, and the World of Warcraft expansion, Mists of Pandaria).

Max Payne 3

Rockstar Games rarely makes a bad game, with releases like the Grand Theft Auto series and Red Dead Redemption. So when they announced that Max Payne 3 would be launched in March this year, it gave hope to gaming  community of a promising year. After seeing how Rockstar has mastered the open world sandbox genre, there’s little doubt that the Max Payne franchise will not disappoint.

Mass Effect 3

The end to a trilogy that sparked a cult following lands this year. It was a resurrection of sorts for the role-playing games domain but the most impressive part was the ability to craft your very own ending with the choices you make. Everyone has a different and completely unique story surrounding his/her character, and that epic tale comes to an end when part three launches this year. Let’s see if BioWare can again do the impossible and deliver a gaming experience o remember.

BioShock Infinite

The creators of Irrational Games can only be described as geniuses. After bringing us one of the best, most atmospheric games of this generation with BioShock, which was a seductive mix of FPS and RPG they’ve decided to step up their game even further and take the franchise in a completely new direction. This is hands down one of the most promising games of 2012. If you don’t believe me, go here to see the debut trailer.

Dota 2

Dota 2 stands at a brink. While the following of Dota is undoubtedly huge and pre-release tournaments drew in millions of viewers, the expectations surrounding it are gigantic too. After a decade of underground success, enjoying massive popularity while being mostly ignored in the media, Dota 2 will bring us the first official version.
So there you have it! Sharpen your gaming reflexes because this year is going to be absolutely revolutionary – personally, I can’t wait for the fun to begin!
